What Is KYC? Exchange Verification Steps, Documents, and Troubleshooting

KYC means Know Your Customer. For a crypto exchange, it is a compliance process used to confirm the account holder, location, and required risk information. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, product, and account tier, so the signed-in official page is the final authority.

Information checked: 2026-07-12 (UTC+8). This guide summarizes official exchange guidance and is not legal advice.

What You May Need

  • A valid government-issued ID such as a national ID, passport, or driver license
  • A phone with a clear camera and good lighting
  • Name, birth date, and nationality that exactly match the document
  • In some regions, a recent proof of address

Typical Verification Flow

  1. Open identity verification from the official app or a manually verified official domain.
  2. Select nationality, residence, and document type.
  3. Capture the full document without glare, blur, or cropped corners.
  4. Complete the live face check; do not photograph another screen.
  5. Read the stated reason before resubmitting a rejected application.

Rejection Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to do
Document unreadable Glare, blur, cropped edges Use even lighting and include all four corners
Details do not match Different spelling, date, or nationality Enter details exactly as printed
Face check fails Obstruction, backlight, dirty lens Remove obstructions and retry in good light
Address proof requested Regional or risk requirement Use a supported, recent document
Repeated rejection Duplicate account or risk review Stop repeated attempts and use official support

Privacy and Scam Rules

  1. Upload documents only in the official app or on a verified official domain. No legitimate agent needs your seed phrase, private key, or one-time code.
  2. Never send ID images through Telegram, LINE, or social direct messages. Anyone offering to bypass KYC creates serious identity and account risk.
  3. Read the privacy notice before submitting. Do not use false addresses or another person documents to bypass regional restrictions.

After KYC

KYC verifies identity; it does not secure the account. Enable an authenticator or passkey, set an anti-phishing code, review signed-in devices, and use a withdrawal address allowlist. See the crypto exchange security guide.
